Watching television is hard these days. Even on your best day, there is so much political programming; seeing all of the aggressive comments can drive you mad. Taking a much-needed break to watch the Summer Olympic footage in Paris was nice, but then the closing ceremonies came, and television returned to being challenging to endure.
Taking things into my own hands, I did a deep dive into YouTube, streaming it on my television while working on my laptop or relaxing after a long day of screen time. These channels have entertained me, and some have even taught me a thing or two.
Jazz Relaxation Channel: There are several options, but this is the one I am currently using. It has a relaxing outdoor scene that changes seasonally paired with soft jazz, allowing me to concentrate while working. I leave it on when guests come over too. Having the Samsung Frame TV showcases this channel nicely. It allows me to keep it classy while entertaining.
The Diary of a CEO: This is a podcast hosted and created by Steven Bartlett, an entrepreneur and investor. Make sure to listen to or watch the episode with Gabor Mate. He discusses his book The Myth of Normal and how we, especially women, have a difficult time processing trauma and taking care of ourselves. His topics cover a wide range of topics around health, lifestyle, and investing. His flow is unique, and the questions asked, and topics covered will challenge your normal way of thinking.
Sonia Choquette: She is a best-selling author who works as an intuitive spirit guide. My 83-year-old aunt read her book while hanging out at the beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, then shared how much she loved it. After checking out her website and channel, it was easy to see why. For all the negative we have going on in our world today, Sonia brings in some positive. She talks about our spirit guides and how they help us maneuver everyday life. While this topic could be a little dicey for some my take on it is this: I don’t know what I don’t know, and I am always willing to learn something new. Go in with an open mind and you may just surprise yourself.
The Bulwark Podcast: This channel has been my safe space for political updates this year. They call it like they see it, and if you are interested in the details around all of the legal trouble our former President Trump has gotten himself in, there is a podcast that features George Conway, the former husband of Kellyanne Conway, an advisor to Trump during his presidency. George does a great job of breaking everything down into simple terms for everyone to understand. Tim Miller may be my favorite host, wearing his pearls while saying it like it is. If you are conservative, this may not be the space for you, but for moderates and liberals, enjoy.
Dr. Mark Hyman: His channel has a solid variety of short videos, podcasts, and long-form videos that will help you navigate eating healthy, dealing with trauma, and living your best as you age. Having celiac, an auto-immune disease, I enjoy the variety of topics he discusses and breaks down actionable tasks to implement immediately so you see results and feel better.
